The COVID-19 pandemic has upended the lives of millions of people. Food insecurity was already a major concern for so many Americans before the pandemic struck. Now millions more, a disproportionate share being children, have suffered food insecurity for the first time in their lives. In response to this unprecedented crisis, BEM has established a Gratitude Fund with an initial investment of $75,000 to support food banks throughout the United States. Although we are not a large company, we feel very fortunate to have weathered the economic fallout with the help of our business partners. We are therefore asking our friends, family members, and business partners to join us in contributing to one of these food banks (others may be added). Community Food Bank of New Jersey
The Community FoodBank of New Jersey is the state’s largest anti-hunger and anti-poverty organization, supporting more than 1,000 community partners, including local food pantries and soup kitchens. They ensure access to nutritious food for vulnerable individuals and families while also preparing to meet the growing need. BEM has donated $50,000 and we ask others to join us to help those most in need!
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank serves an average of 100,000 people a year but we are now serving an average of 50,000 people in just one month. Under normal operations, the Food Bank is run as a warehouse facility; however, we have established a temporary drive-through operations process to help supplement the increased need. BEM has donated $10,000 and we ask others to join us to help those most in need!
Food Bank of Alaska works with food industry partners to salvage food that would otherwise go to waste from grocery stores, wholesalers, producers, farmers, and the fishing industry. We also collect food donated by community members and administer government food programs. Your generosity makes it possible for the Food Bank of Alaska to feed hungry children, families, and seniors. BEM has donated $15,000 and we ask others to join us to help those most in need!
