BEM’s Water Supply Services center around understanding the importance of clean, viable, and sustainable water resources for the future of human health. Our focus is to provide solutions to meet increasing water demand and options for the challenges expected as population size increases and our environment continues to change. Our team has conducted hydrogeologic evaluation studies to develop aquifer properties for use in well development, potable water investigations, and subsurface fate and transport modeling.

Key Staff Experience

Key members of our staff have planned and managed groundwater resource evaluations for municipal and private clients to develop and enhance potable drinking water supplies and industrial and irrigation supplies. These projects often include elements of artificial recharge to increase resource availability in restricted aquifers, well rehabilitation, compliance assistance with state and federal Safe Drinking Water regulations, wellhead protection, aquifer storage, groundwater quality, well design, and groundwater resource management. Using the same hydrogeologic principles, members of our staff successfully designed and permitted subsurface community wastewater disposal systems for developments in us-sewered areas..

Typical Projects

• Town of Geneva, NY: Groundwater resource evaluation and design by completing a hydrogeologic assessment for installation of a municipal supply well. Services included well design, installation, and testing to achieve the necessary well yield to meet the needs of the municipality.
• Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Alaska: Establishment of a temporary water supply and distribution system for several projects. Activities included submittal of a temporary water use permit with the State of Alaska, installation of pumping equipment and water purification systems, and testing of water quality to meet daily potable water demands.
• New Jersey Department of Transportation: Implemented a fracture trace analysis and subsequent bedrock study to evaluate BTEX contamination within the Brunswick Formation. Provided technical support and oversight for packer testing, pumping tests, tracer tests, and down-hole geophysics analysis to evaluate pathways of contamination.
• New Jersey Transit Corporation: Performed “slug tests” on multiple wells to calculate hydrogeologic parameters within an aquifer to aid in dewatering estimations during excavation.
