Since our inception in 1990, BEM has recognized the importance of utilizing Information Technology (IT) and geographic information systems (GIS) to streamline project execution and our client’s business processes. Clients’ receptiveness to this approach led to the formation of an Innovation, Technology & Solutions (ITS) department to expand the firm’s capabilities in this area and broaden the range of services and products available to clients. To better serve its clients, BEM has integrated its environmental consulting and information management services to form a “hybrid” organization. BEM’s ITS team understands the objectives and technical requirements for implementing information systems that effectively assist in the management of a public agency’s data.
Our environmental and planning consulting practices gave BEM a unique insight into the real estate acquisition and relocation process. Through BEM’s experience providing environmental services to the transportation industry, we recognized the need for an overall ROW management system. Starting with our role in managing the acquisition process for over 500 properties in support of the NJ Transit’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail System, continued investments in product development resulted in the creation of PAECETrak™, a web-based, comprehensive real estate management application designed to manage all phases of property acquisition with an intuitive, workflow-based architecture.
The PAECETrak™ platform has been subsequently expanded to handle many types of related business functions, including outdoor advertising, utility relocation and coordination, highway access and occupancy permitting, and environmental compliance and permitting. These systems may be implemented stand-alone, or automatically integrated with PAECETrak™, sharing relevant project information and ensuring consistency amongst the various divisions and functions. BEM has also developed a mobile capability that integrates with our various PAECETrak™ modules.
BEM has continued its software development with the Flood Forecasting Asset Response System (FfARS™) and its asset management system, which are both entirely new software options developed in response to the needs of transportation agencies.
