The Rescue of 752 New Jersey Indigenous Fish

At BEM Systems, an Aventia company, we recently had the chance to do something pretty amazing. help protect local wildlife while supporting a municipal pond maintenance project. Before the heavy equipment rolled in, our team had a critical mission: rescue and relocate the pond’s native fish population. Clarice and team waded into the water with nets, buckets, and a deep respect for the ecosystem they were about to safeguard.
Over the course of the operation, they successfully relocated 752 fish, representing a vibrant mix of species:
- Bluegill Sunfish
- Black Crappie
- Golden Shiner
- American Eel
These species are more than just names—they’re an important part of the ecosystem. By moving them safely, we helped maintain biodiversity and keep the pond’s natural balance intact. Our commitment to sustainability guided every step of this initiative. Through careful planning and teamwork, we ensured that the fish were moved efficiently.
This project is a great example of how environmental stewardship and infrastructure needs can go hand-in-hand. At BEM, we’re proud to play a role in making that happen.
I particularly enjoyed this project because I love doing hands-on work with species. This project allowed me to broaden and improve my knowledge of fish species within NJ. Plus, it’s always fun to find a species you weren’t expecting!
